In detail

Oak structural timber, all the essentials

Product description

Our oak structural timber is cut from German oak into various cross-sections and lengths as required. The range includes squared timber, beams, planks and boards as well as other project-specific cuts.

Oak is a hard and dense timber. The heartwood in particular has a good natural durability and has long been used for numerous outdoor applications and in traditional timber construction.

Also common are the terms oak beams, oak squared timber and oak planks.

Structural timber with the same cross-sections, optionally planed, is available as Larch structural timber and Spruce structural timber. Boards, profiles and other cuts are in the Sawn & Round Timber overview.

Whether a size specification refers to the cut or to the finished timber is explained in the article Sawn size and finished size.

Areas of use

Oak structural timber is used in many ways in garden and landscape construction, and likewise in fence building for pasture and paddock fences and horse fences. Typical applications are beams, posts, sleepers, edgings, planks, boards and other individual timber constructions.

Thanks to the wide range of possible cross-sections and lengths, the goods can be cut to suit different projects and requirements.

Origin & sustainability

The timber for our oak structural timber comes from sustainably managed forests in Germany.

Delivery

Delivery is made through various freight partners. The lead time is as a rule approx. 2 to 4 weeks and can vary according to the dimensions, the order quantity and the delivery location.

Depending on the dimension and order quantity, the oak structural timber is supplied bundled or by the pallet. Larger quantities up to complete or several lorry loads can be organised accordingly.

Depending on the scope of delivery and the vehicle used, a forklift or comparable lifting equipment may be needed for unloading. When you enquire, please let us know what unloading facilities are available on site.

Collection at our Hennef address is not possible, as only our offices are located there.

Important notes

  • The oak structural timber is supplied rough-sawn and freshly cut. It is not planed or technically dried timber and not KVH (Konstruktionsvollholz).
  • In the course of natural drying, shrinkage cracks, slight distortion and changes in the dimensions can occur.
  • The goods are not graded free of heartwood or free of knots. Knots and differences in texture and grain can occur.
  • Depending on the cut, proportions of sapwood, waney edge or occasional remains of bark may be present. We can often allow for particular requirements regarding appearance, knots, sapwood content or waney edge, but they have to be with us before the order is placed and should therefore be stated with the enquiry.
  • Oak contains natural tannins. In the presence of moisture these can react with metals containing iron and cause dark to black discolouration.
  • Further cross-sections and lengths to order are possible subject to availability and can be enquired about individually.
