In detail

Softwood half-round rails, all the essentials

Product description

Softwood half-round rails are made from machine-rounded softwood and then halved lengthwise. That produces the typical combination of a rounded outer face and a straight cut face. This version is often used as a cross rail in fence building. Comparable half-round rails are also offered commercially as machine-rounded and split fence rails.

The timber species used – pine, spruce and fir – can be composed differently depending on the batch available.

Also common are the terms half-round rails, half-round poles and half palisades.

Without impregnation the same rail is available as Robinia half-round rails or Sweet chestnut half-round rails; the matching stakes are Softwood stakes. All stakes and posts are in the Stakes & Posts overview.

How rails, boards and mesh are fixed to the stakes is described in the guide Cleft post or round post.

Origin & sustainability

Pine, spruce and fir are used for the half-round rails. The exact composition and the origin of the timber can vary depending on the batch available.

Softwood is a renewable raw material and is used extensively in forestry in Europe.

Delivery

Delivery is made through various freight partners. The lead time is as a rule approx. 1 to 3 weeks and can vary according to the dimensions, the order quantity and the delivery location.

The softwood half-round rails are supplied by the pallet. Larger order quantities up to complete or several lorry loads can be organised accordingly.

Depending on the scope of delivery and the vehicle used, a forklift or comparable lifting equipment may be needed for unloading. When you enquire, please let us know what unloading facilities are available on site.

Collection at our Hennef address is not possible, as only our offices are located there.

Important notes

  • The half-round rails are made from a batch-dependent mixture of pine, spruce and fir.
  • If a particular timber species is to be excluded, this has to be agreed before ordering. Whether it can be done depends on the batch available at the time.
  • Timber is a natural product. Differences in colour, knots, grain and surface can occur.
  • Slight deviations in dimensions and shape are possible for reasons of material and production.
  • With pressure-treated stock, the colour tone and appearance can vary within a delivery. In pressure treatment, timber preservatives are introduced into receptive areas of the timber under pressure.
  • Further dimensions and versions are possible on request subject to availability.
  • Machining and surface quality can vary according to the production process. If there are particular requirements regarding appearance, dimensional accuracy or surface, the intended purpose should be stated with the enquiry so that the appropriate version can be agreed.

Plan your pasture fence directly

The pasture fence calculator supports you in rough planning: it helps to work out the stake length, post spacing and number of pieces. Add boards or rails depending on the version and see an example illustration of your fence. The figures are guide values and are no substitute for detailed planning.
