In detail

Oak cleft posts, all the essentials

Product description

Oak cleft posts are cleft from naturally grown oak round timber along the grain. That produces the characteristic cleft faces and a natural shape that differs from post to post.

Oak is a hard and dense timber. The heartwood in particular has a good natural durability and has therefore long been used for outdoor applications. The posts are worked left natural, with bark and without chemical impregnation.

Also common are the terms oak cleft posts, oak pasture stakes and cleft oak stakes.

The same timber species naturally grown and round is available as Oak round posts, and cleft in robinia as Robinia cleft posts. The rest of the range is in the Stakes & Posts overview.

How an oak log becomes a finished cleft post is shown in the article How an oak cleft post is made.

Areas of use

Oak cleft posts are used above all in fence building. Typical applications are pasture and paddock fences, game fences and other functional enclosures in agriculture and forestry. Depending on the type of fence they can be combined with wire, mesh, boards or rails.

Origin & sustainability

The timber for our oak cleft posts comes from sustainably managed forests in Germany.

Delivery

Delivery is made through various freight partners. The lead time is as a rule 1 to 3 weeks and can vary according to the dimensions, the order quantity and the delivery location.

The oak cleft posts are supplied by the pallet. Larger order quantities up to complete or several lorry loads can be organised accordingly.

Half-full or mixed pallets are also possible at extra cost.

Collection in person is possible by arrangement directly at the production site in question. Collection at our location in Hennef is not possible.

Depending on the scope of delivery and the vehicle used, a forklift or comparable lifting equipment may be needed for unloading.

Important notes

  • Oak cleft posts are not calibrated. The back width given serves as a guide value; shape and cross-section can vary through the natural growth and the cleaving.
  • The posts are supplied with bark. The proportions of bark and sapwood can differ by nature.
  • Oak contains natural tannins. In the presence of moisture these can react with iron and cause dark to black discolouration in the timber.
  • Further lengths and back widths are possible on request subject to availability.
Pasture fence calculator

Plan your pasture fence directly

The pasture fence calculator supports you in rough planning: it helps to work out the stake length, post spacing and number of pieces. Add boards or rails depending on the version and see an example illustration of your fence. The figures are guide values and are no substitute for detailed planning.
