Robinia sawn timber, all the essentials
Product description
We offer robinia sawn timber as boards and squared timber in various versions. The range runs from unedged boards with a natural edge through edged boards in fixed or random widths to planed and chamfered squared timber.
Depending on the surface required, you can choose between rough-sawn and planed stock. Fixed widths give even dimensions for further processing. Unedged boards and boards in random widths retain more of the timber's natural character.
Robinia heartwood has a very high natural durability. This makes robinia particularly suitable for long-lasting uses outdoors, and it can be worked without chemical wood preservative.
The naturally grown version of the same timber species is available as Robinia round timber. You will find further products in our Sawn & Round Timber overview.
In the trade robinia is also sold as acacia; the terms robinia planks and robinia squared timber are also common.
What the size specification refers to on rough-sawn and planed stock is explained in the article Sawn size and finished size.
Areas of use
Robinia sawn timber is used for numerous outdoor applications where long-lasting timber and defined dimensions are needed.
Boards are used among other things for privacy screening and fence elements, cladding, seating surfaces, benches, design elements and for components in playground construction. Planed material is particularly suitable for visible surfaces that are touched directly.
Squared timber is used for example as posts, rails, frames, substructures and other timber elements. Typical fields of use are garden and landscape construction, fence building and playground construction.
Origin & sustainability
Our robinia timber comes from selected European stands. What matters for its use is the quality of the timber and its suitability for applications outdoors under permanent exposure.
Robinia heartwood has a very high natural durability. It can therefore be used outdoors without chemical wood preservative and is particularly suitable for long-lasting timber applications.

Important notes
- Robinia is a natural product. Differences in colour, figure, knots and grain are part of the timber's natural appearance.
- The high natural durability of robinia relates to the heartwood. Sapwood has a considerably lower natural durability. Particular requirements regarding the proportion of sapwood should be stated with the enquiry.
- Cracks, warping and natural changes in shape can occur through drying and changing moisture content.
- With planed stock the sawn size and the finished size can differ. If specific finished sizes are needed, they should be stated with the enquiry.
- Robinia is a hard timber. With screwed connections it is usual to pre-drill.
- The natural tannins of robinia can cause dark discolouration in combination with metals containing iron and moisture. For outdoor use, suitable corrosion-resistant fixings should be used.
- Untreated robinia timber develops a natural grey patina over time when exposed to the weather.
