In detail

Sweet chestnut round posts, all the essentials

Product description

Sweet chestnut round posts are made from naturally grown round timber and debarked. The natural grown form is retained, so that diameter, line and surface can vary from post to post.

Sweet chestnut is traditionally used for stakes and other outdoor applications. The heartwood in particular has a good natural durability. The posts are debarked, left natural and worked without chemical impregnation.

Also common are the terms chestnut stakes and chestnut round posts.

The same debarked round post in robinia is available as Robinia stakes, and with bark and in oak as Oak round posts. Further stakes and posts are in the Stakes & Posts overview.

How the posts are set together with the roll stock is described in the guide Building a chestnut paling fence.

Origin & sustainability

The timber for our sweet chestnut round posts comes from France or Italy depending on the batch available.

Sweet chestnut has a good natural durability, particularly in the heartwood, and is therefore used for many outdoor applications without chemical timber preservation.

Delivery

Delivery is made through various freight partners. The lead time is as a rule 1 to 4 weeks and can vary according to the dimensions, the order quantity and the delivery location.

The sweet chestnut round posts are supplied by the pallet. Larger order quantities up to complete or several lorry loads can be organised accordingly.

Depending on the scope of delivery and the vehicle used, a forklift or comparable lifting equipment may be needed for unloading. When you enquire, please let us know what unloading facilities are available on site.

Collection at our Hennef address is not possible, as only our offices are located there.

Important notes

  • Sweet chestnut round posts are naturally grown and not calibrated. The diameters given serve as guide values; shape and thickness can vary within a delivery.
  • Slight curves and natural irregularities are part of the appearance of naturally grown posts.
  • The sweet chestnut round posts are worked and supplied freshly. In the course of natural drying, cracks and slight changes in shape can develop afterwards.
  • The natural durability refers in particular to the heartwood. Proportions of sapwood may be present and have a lower natural durability.
  • Sweet chestnut contains natural tannins. In combination with moisture and metals containing iron, dark discolouration can occur.
  • Further lengths and diameters are possible on request subject to availability.
